OWP-0071 - Chapter Eighteen
/Chapter XVIII - Recent Occurrences
In the years since the war with Khrima, various events have occurred which have bearing on the the Eternal histories, although very little has involved the Eternals directly.
Particularly, Lumi, once a low-level priestess in the Church of the Messenger, had actually met the Messenger in person: this catapulted her to diefic status in the Church. This lead to a rewriting of much of the religious text and the Church itself being renamed the Temple of the Messenger (a suggestion by Lumi’s husband Karn) and entire new books of canon being added, mostly involving her directly.
Things went fairly well initially, but the actual texts removed so much mystery from what were once unfathomable entities, that only a few adherents actually treated it as a religion any more, and merely a fact of life: An unknown individual was quoted as saying “You might as well worship a bee”*. The numbers of the religion itself dwindled, and even before the catastrophe to come was a mere shadow of it’s former self.
The catastrophe in question was the changing of the world, at the time of writing a fairly recent phenomenon. Civilization was thrown into chaos, the ground cracked, the skies darkened. When it was all done, the world was barely recognizable: an endless wasteland punctuated by ruins and holes into the void. The cause remains unknown, but what is known is that there are few things in the universe which could alter an entire world so drastically other than Eternals and their makings.
* Immediately before being fatally stung by the nearby giant bee, which they assumed was a regular sized bee much further away - an easy mistake to make when depth of field is not enabled.
